The story goes back to my early high school days when I was extremely allergic to English. One day, an ALT talked to me during recess, which I didn’t expect at all. I must admit that it really caught me off guard and I clearly remember I freaked out. Escape was not an option for me, so I tried hard to make myself understood with my limited vocabulary, and guess what? It worked! Through this successful experience, I could learn this important fact that English gives us the ability to communicate with foreigners. This is what inspired me to start studying English.
（私が極度の英語アレルギーであった高校時代初期のことです。ある日の休み時間、全く予想だにしていなかったのですが、ALTの先生が私に話しかけてきたのです。正直、不意打ちを食らったようでかなり動揺したのをはっきり覚えています。逃げることは選ばず、限られたボキャブラリーで一生懸命理解してもらおうと頑張ったら何と、上手く通じたのです。この成功体験を通し、英語によって外国人と意思疎通が取れるのだという重要な事実を学ぶことが出来ました。これが、私が英語を学ぶようになったきっかけです。）
