Living a dream

When I moved to Japan, I wasn’t expecting the warm welcome I would receive from the locals. Living on my own for the first time was a challenge, but with the help of my fellow teachers and students, I came to consider Japan as my new home away from home. I’m so grateful for all the memories I’ve made in this country, and I hope to repay this kindness by being the best English teacher I can be!

日本に来たとき、地元の人たちからこんなに温かく迎えられるとは思っていませんでした。初めての一人暮らしは大変でしたが、同僚の先生方や生徒たちの助けのおかげで、日本を「第二の故郷」と感じるようになりました。この国でたくさんの思い出を作ることができたことに本当に感謝しており、この優しさに報いるために、最高の英語教師でありたいと思っています。

05 What made you interested in Japan?（日本に興味をもったキッカケは？）

I watched anime like Naruto and Dragon Ball Z when I was a kid, so I was surprised to discover another country’s art. When I found out that country was Japan, I wanted to learn more about it, so I studied Japan’s culture and history. I was very interested in it, and I wanted to visit, so I decided to come here to teach English for 1 year. I’ve been teaching English for 5 years now, so you could say Japan has made quite the impression on me.
（子どもの頃、『ナルト』や『ドラゴンボールZ』のようなアニメをよく見ていました。そんな作品が他の国の芸術だと知って、とても驚きました。その国が日本だと分かってから、日本の文化や歴史に興味を持ち、もっと学びたいと思うようになりました。とても興味深く感じたので、実際に日本を訪れたいと思い、1年間英語を教えるために来ることを決めました。それから5年が経ち、今も英語を教えています。日本は、私にとって本当に大きな影響を与えてくれた国だと言えると思います。）
